In Wolfenstein’s alternate 1980s, Nazis remain a tyrannical force of evil and oppression across Europe, even after Hitler was killed by series protagonist BJ Blazkowicz. Thus, the Nazi killing continues as the Blazkowicz twins, Jess and Soph, pick up where their parents left off for a spin-off in Wolfenstein: Youngblood–a relentless co-op shooter driven by an unapologetic, youthful attitude. It may not reach the same narrative heights of its predecessors or land every idea borne out in its new approach, but Youngblood hits where it counts.
Our introduction to Jess and Soph shows how their parents, Anya and BJ, taught them the means for survival on their rural Texas homestead. There’s a tense tone of protective parents who’ve been through the worst and are preparing their daughters to be able to handle the same, which is quickly juxtaposed with the twins’ carefree exuberance when alone together. Bring in the wizkid best friend Abby, daughter of Wolfenstein 2’s Grace Walker, and you have a trio that brings their own unique swagger to the Wolfenstein name.

AMD AM5 motherboards are set to receive BIOS updates that add support for the latest wave of high-frequency memory modules. MSI is progressively rolling out the update in question right now, with other vendors certain to follow.

OpenAI has unleashed yet another new chatbot on we poor, unsuspecting humans. We give you o1, a chatbot designed for more advanced reasoning that’s claimed to be better at things like coding, math and generally solving multistep problems.
Perhaps the most significant change from previous OpenAI LLMs is a shift from mimicking patterns found in text training data to a focus on more direct problem solving, courtesy of reinforcement learning. The net result is said to be a more consistent, accurate chatbot.
“We have noticed that this model hallucinates less,” OpenAI’s research lead, Jerry Tworek, told The Verge. Of course, “hallucinates less” doesn’t mean no hallucinations at all. “We can’t say we solved hallucinations,” Tworek says. Ah.

World of Warcraft’s shaken up its dungeons a lot over the years. One such victim to the wheels of time is the Scarlet Monastery. This dungeon (or these dungeons, I should say, each is their own separate instance) consists of the Armory, the Library, the Cathedral, and the Graveyard.
In patch 5.0.4, these dungeons got rolled into two new revamped dungeons—the Halls and the confusingly-named Monastery. They were forever consigned to the annals of history (at least until World of Warcraft Classic came along). Well, it turns out you can get back to all four of these Classic dungeons right now.
All you have to do is queue up for the Hallow’s End fight, the Headless Horseman, in the dungeon finder. Beating up this rhyming Scooby-Doo tier schmuck will let you snag a pumpkin with some goodies in it. One of these can be the Scarlet Key.
Hoof it to the Monastery itself in Tirisfal Glades, and you’ll be able to turn in the key, creating a clickable item that gives you a buff. The description reads “Retracing the steps of those who came before.” This gives you access to all four dungeons from the game’s halcyon days.

The storming success of Dwarf Fortress continues apace. DF programmer and co-designer, Tarn Adams, announced this week that the game’s “premium” Steam version sold almost half a million copies last month after its December 6 release. It seems like people are queueing around the block to spend money on a game that’s been freely available for 16 years, and rightly so: Dwarf Fortress is an incredible and incredibly unique game.
The news means that DF has torn its pre-release sales estimates to shreds. Before the game’s Steam version came out, an economist enlisted by its publisher—Kitfox—tentatively predicted that it would sell around 160,000 copies over the course of its first two months on Steam. It hit that within 24 hours of release. It’s now reached more or less triple that number of sales in less than a month.

December 1, 2023: Rockstar has officially announced that “trailer 1” for GTA 6 will premiere on December 5.
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be officially announced by the end of this week and a trailer will follow in December, according to a new Bloomberg report. The report cites “people familiar with [Rockstar’s] plans”.
If it proves to be true—and the source is far from dubious—that means we’ll be getting the “official” GTA 6 announcement almost exactly 12 years after the GTA 5 announcement happened on November 3, 2011. That’s a long time, but Rockstar parent company Take-Two has high hopes for it. “It needs to be something you’ve never seen before on the one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling we have about Grand Theft Auto,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in May. “That’s a big challenge for the team”.
Of course, it’s far from a secret that Rockstar is working on GTA 6: the project was subject to one of the biggest videogame leaks ever last year, revealing a bunch of footage and details that may or may not make it into the final product. Last week, a news post appeared on the Steam page for Quantum Lock, an asymmetrical game of cyberspace freeze tag from 2015 and the first game released by indie developer Fat Bomb Studios. The news was grim: While Quantum Lock had been “a big milestone,” the studio said it “was created at a time before we understood version control software.” Fat Bomb was delisting Quantum Lock because, in the years since its release, the source code had been lost.
Without the source code, any issues, bugs, or—worst of all—potential security vulnerabilities players might discover in Quantum Lock can’t be addressed. “We do not have access to the source code anymore and cannot make any fixes or changes to the game,” Fat Bomb said in the shutdown announcement. “Because of this, we have decided to disable the ability for anyone to buy copies of the game.”
Aaron Leaton, cofounder of Fat Bomb Studios, had been seeking inspiration when he returned to his studio’s first game after eight years away.

Marvel Rivals closed beta test is off to a pretty impressive start since it began earlier this week. With servers getting overwhelmed at first and the hero shooter climbing into the top 10 most viewed games on Twitch, boasting just over 68K active viewers. But with only a few days before the end of the test, Netease is adding another surprise: two new heroes.
The two heroes joining the roster will be Thor, the god of thunder, and Jeff (or Jeffery, if you’re being polite), the Landshark. Both were revealed at San Diego Comic-Con alongside a short trailer, which content creator ACozyGamer posted to X. Jeff’s reveal may be one of the most chaotic entrances I’ve seen in a while: This half-shark, half-puppy creature jumps onto the screen and proceeds to sing for almost a minute. I don’t really know what’s going on, but I like what this little guy has to say.
On the other hand, the new cinematic trailer looks a bit more sinister, as it shows various heroes fighting against each other in a soon-to-be-derelict city.
